Challenge

Outgrowing their legacy EPM

Sendik’s finance team had outgrown their previous Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) solution. Their legacy solution, Adaptive Insights (now Workday Adaptive Planning), required manual integration and made it difficult to consolidate their data. With 17 stores to manage, the team was constantly keeping track of and collecting data across the business. Analyzing their data was also becoming a challenge. Their previous solution was not adaptable enough, reducing the quality of their reporting and making it difficult to analyze data outside of the system they used for budgeting. As a result, it was hard to collaborate as a team, because they struggled to share data efficiently outside of Finance with other business units like HR, IT, and marketing. It also made it difficult to pull reports quickly from each of their 17 stores.

Looking for a better way, the team went on the hunt for a cloud-based solution with Microsoft Dynamics GP (ERP) integration that was adaptable enough to meet the diverse needs of their business.

Implementation without help from IT

After evaluating other solutions, it was clear to the team that Jedox was the best fit to replace their legacy solution. Jedox not only integrates well with Microsoft, but the team could also have one unified solution and avoid the need for two different systems for budgeting and reporting. Jedox provided some support during implementation, but its intuitive system made it easy for the team to complete the build-out on their own, without any help from their internal IT team. The team found the solution adaptable, and they continue to edit their model for their evolving needs.

Outcome

Faster reporting across 17 stores

After implementation, Sendik’s was able to pull information into Jedox from Microsoft GP and then analyze, report, and find the required data in Jedox. The task of manually integrating data was a thing of the past. The team can also quickly pull information for all of their store locations, departments, and accounts, which was impossible with GP alone. Using Jedox for both top-down and bottom-up planning, their understanding of the budget and actual financials improved, and they are able to see the same data across different dimensions in a way that was just not possible before. They can plan faster and have a deeper understanding of what their budgets contain. Their documentation process has also improved. In addition to creating monthly financial reports, the Jedox implementation helped Sendik’s reduce the time they spend on planning and budgeting and gave them a better view of their budget. Not only did Jedox reduce the costs for the team, but it gave them more capabilities than their previous EPM solution.
