Jedox has been committed to in-memory technology from the get-go. Traditionally, this technology involves compressing data on the hard drive, then loading it completely into the RAM where it is available for calculations. This method ensures high access speeds and fast queries. But here's the kicker: Jedox OLAP Accelerator actually increases the processing speed of in-memory technology many times over by already compressing data in the RAM - boosting performance even more.
OLAP Accelerator uses GPU technology, which is also used in video cards. This approach lines up many small processors simultaneously, which results in tremendous speed. Driven by GPU processors, Jedox OLAP Accelerator is able to number-crunch OLAP cubes in-memory and thus vastly outperform traditional CPU-multicore architectures. By the way, GPUs can easily be added to servers and do not require additional hardware installation.
In other words, if you want to unlock in-memory's full speed potential, you need to deploy GPUs. Jedox GPU technology was developed in collaboration with researchers at the University of Freiburg, Germany, and the University of Western Australia. This research project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and Jedox, and sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).
The University of Applied Sciences, Karlsruhe, Germany, compared the query speed of Jedox OLAP and Jedox OLAP Accelerator with that of competitors' products. The results are displayed in this chart.
