The Worksheet Server™ primarily focuses on delivering a high performance service for collecting and distributing data in a multi-user environment. The Worksheet Server™ is not meant to replace desktop spreadsheet applications. Furthermore, we also do not promise that every existing spreadsheet will be compatible without a patch.
The server can handle all basic spreadsheet functions, but it does not support advanced data management tools such as cross-tabulation, automatic list-filters or other analytical tools that some spreadsheet vendors offer on top of their traditional spreadsheet functions.
There are some other things to keep in mind when building a worksheet for the Worksheet Server™.
- Macros and other programming tools
- Drawing Objects
- Plausibility Checking
Macros and other programming tools
The Worksheet Server™ does not support any addins written in a macro language or in Basic. You might discover that some of the typical reasons for such an entry may become obsolete with the extended features of the Worksheet Server™ (i.e. data consolidation).
Although macro language or Basic are not supported, it is possible to program extensions for the Worksheet Server™. These extensions could be done with directly with PHP or remote over CGI respective SOAP compatible API in Java or other languages.
Jedox does offer the development of custom extensions for your web
application. This could be as simple as adding new worksheet functions
to your spreadsheet or as advanced as creating interfaces with your
existing IT infrastructure. Do not hesitate to contact Jedox for
further information regarding custom extensions.
Drawing Objects
Currently there is no support for drawing objects like lines, arrows,
rectangles or textboxes. If you need rectangluar lines or boxes on your
worksheet, try to use a combination of cell border attributes.
Business charts (line, bar, pie , etc.) are supported.
Plausibility Checking
Currently not all plausibility checks on cell entries are supported.
