- In HTML format, Microsoft Excel can store worksheets only as static pages. Data entry or online calculations are not possible in HTML mode.
- Microsoft Excel does offer an interactive mode for Internet Explorer. This is based on a proprietary ActiveX Control that is embedded in a HTML page. The ActiveX Control only runs on Windows machines and only if an appropriate version of Excel is installed.
- The ActiveX Control does not allow to save data, therefore data collection is not possible. Embedded charts are not displayed on the ActiveX Control.
- As opposed to Microsoft Excel the Worksheet-Server is serverbased. Data entry and calculations are stored on the server and can be centrally aggregated on the server.
