Open-Source Business Intelligence: Palo User Conference Continues to Grow

Number of attendees at Palo User Conference 2008 has doubled, establishing itself as an international forum

Freiburg, 13 November 2008 – Jedox today announced that its 3rd International Palo User Conference attracted 140 attendees from Europe and overseas, more than twice as many as last year’s conference. The conference, which took place on Nov. 7 in Frankfurt, addressed the latest developments of Jedox’s Palo Open Source OLAP database. The growing international customer forum, coupled with the company’s internal workforce and developer growth (both of which have doubled since last year), reflects the company’s continued successful expansion.

The conference introduced new versions of the Palo OLAP Server and Palo Worksheet Server, both of which will be released this December. Kristian Raue, CEO of Jedox, spoke about the company’s future product strategy, which includes positioning its entire range of sophisticated BI solutions as “BI-as-a-Service” products oriented towards the innovative concept of SaaS (Software-as-a-Service). Raue indicated that Jedox would provide as much technical support as its clients need to implement the Palo solution for mapping the complete cycle, from planning and reporting to analysis.

“‘BI-as-a-service’ signifies independence from large suppliers’ changing product strategies within a market marked by consolidations,” commented Raue. “Jedox continues evolving its Open Source BI platform with the business user in mind, empowering them with the option to build their solutions independently and default to Jedox’s accessible team and expertise as needed.”

Thomas Seeler, head of corporate controlling at Dystar Textilfarben GmbH, was one of the conference’s presenters. Recalling the Jedox reporting solution implemented at Dystar, Seeler commented: “It makes my life much easier.” Seeler was joined by several international speakers including Rick Clazie, senior solution consultant of Beyond Compliance of Calgary Alberta, Canada. Mr. Clazie spoke of Palo’s impact in “reducing dependency on software developers for report design“, enabling a “consultative approach to rapid report prototyping“ and “ultimately transforming managers’ understanding of their business.”

IT-sector conference attendees explained that they value Palo for its close Excel integration as Open Source applications become an increasingly strategic topic at their companies.
