Restoring Data

Hi,

I have set up my PALO database about 6 mths ago and all fine. Ran a report this morning to find that most of the data had been deleted. I can't think how as only I am using it at the moment. Although had asked our IT dept to add some new users last week - could be coincidental.

I do not have the rights to start & stop the Palo server so I have do idea if this ever happens. If it has never been stopped & started does this mean I have no way of restoring the data?

We do take backups of our entire IT server daily so I am sure I can get a copy of the database as it was but from what I remember when setting Palo up it won't recognise it when I copy it in unless the services where stopped before the copy was made.

Please help - I am pretty desperate here.

Hi,
so far as I understand all the data you are importing are at first in the log oder archive-files. When the server is stopped, the whole data is written into the csv-files.
Of course there is a automatically backup of the server-data.
But this is a trap: You only can use the csv-files for a backup, but if these data are not written in the csv-files, because the server has crashed or hase stopped because of a failure, you have no chance to get the old data: Maybe I am wrong, but I have found no way the get the data out of the log or archive-files. But if somybody knows a method, it would be great!! I lost my data one one year in a similar way. Now the IT-department has programmed, that the server stops every night and restart automatically, in this case the data are in the csv-files and secure.
Best regards
Roland

Thanks Roland. Do you know what happens if you set up the autosave line in the .ini file? Does this write the data from the log file to the csv file? Our IT support aren't very supportive! I don't think they will agree to stop and start the server daily based on their initial reaction

Hi,
please look at: http://www.jedox.com/community/palo-foru…er+Service+with
there are also many hints by searching for "backup". My IT-Detapartment have programmed something in this direction. I don“t know exactly. Maybe your IT-Department will know what to do if you give them some hints. I hope!
Best regards
Roland
