Palo Suite installation on Linux

Hi,

I am installing Palo Suite on a Linux server and I have few questions regarding the installation.

a. Where can I find the README for Linux? I downloaded Palo Manual from the web which is for Windows. On page 10, manual refers to refer to the readme file in the Linux server setup download. But I am not able to find in the Linux download.

b. Should I have to install as root or should I have root privileges?
These errors showed up when running the install.sh script

... tar: dev/null: Cannot mknod: Operation not permitted
tar: dev/random: Cannot mknod: Operation not permitted
tar: dev/urandom: Cannot mknod: Operation not permitted
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
chown: changing ownership of `php.ini': Operation not permitted
Palo Suite is now configured! Start the server by running the startserver.sh script in the installation directory

Running the startserver.sh script

chroot: cannot change root directory to .: Operation not permitted
chroot: cannot change root directory to .: Operation not permitted
chroot: cannot change root directory to .: Operation not permitted

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Additional questions -

a. What is the minimum configuration required for the installation on Linux.
b. Should any web server (Tomcat?) be installed or does Palo suite automatically installs?

Thanks.

i have posted a blog on installing palo on ubuntu netbook - should also work with redhat / fedora / centos
http://software.krimnet.com/guide/guide-…tbook-remix.htm

pls note that the default installation folder is now /opt/jedox/ps (formerly /opt/jedox/pbis)

when you first startup, wait for about 30 minutes before the palo web is properly up (else, you will have funny 'waiting' stuff)

to have it all as an integrated suite with palo olap, worksheet and etl, you should read this blog
http://software.krimnet.com/palo/fix-pal…86-centos-5.htm

you also need java-sun jdk to have it all running nicely

Thanks. I was able to install the server as a root.

How can I start the server as a user other than root?

i guess the simplest way is just to go sudo -i , then cd /opt/jedox/ps , then ./startserver.sh

this is what i usually do for my ubuntu netbook. for our centos server, it is usually by root.

you can also try change mode so that the file /opt/jedox/ps/startserver.sh is executable by other users (but i personally do not like this)
