Dimension problem

Hello Forum Readers,

I have a strange problem:
I created a new database, and created 2 dimensions: d1 and YearMonth.

(
d1:
aa
- a
- b
- c
YearMonth:
OSSZES
- 2007
-- 200701
-- 200702
-- 200703
-- 200704
....
-- 200712
....
- 2008
-- 200801
-- 200802
....
)

Then I created a cube that contained these dimensions (t1).
Then I pasted a view based on the t1 cube. I tried to insert a value into the cube, but the value that appeared was 0,00. I can’t insert any value into the cube or any other cubes that contain the YearMonth dimension.

What can the problem be?

Thanks,

G.

RE: Dimension problem

Hi,
I downlaoded your db and got data (e.g. 15.43 für b in 200701). Also I can enter data.
Can you see the PALO.DATA formulas after pasting a view. Are they still there after entering a value?

RE: Dimension problem

Hi,

Yes.
The value appaered with PALO.DATA function, but it doesn't work with PALO.DATAC or PALO.DATAV.
These functions show 0,00 values in every position of the cube.

Thanks!

RE: Dimension problem

In my view Ii used PALO.DATAC and it worked as well. Did you try to recalc with F9?

RE: Dimension problem

Yes, I did (and I set Calculation: Automatic)
I tried theese functions in 2 other wss.
PALO.DATAC and PALO.DATAV functions didn't work too.

When I write a value in "PALO.DATAC" view (into the cube), it appears in "PALO.DATA" view in other sheet of xls.
But "PALO.DATAC" view shows 0,00.

What are your computer settings? (office, reg.set etc.)

What can the problem be?

Thanks,

G.

Hello Geri,

I downloaded your model, too. And had the very same problem as you. I think, the reason is the same as in

http://www.jedox.com/community/palo-foru…p?threadid=2046

Your dimension EvHonap contains 216 base elements. That's more than 99.

Holger:
Seems that the model works for you, but not for me and Geri. Maybe it's the Excel or Windows Version? Mine are Excel 2000 and WinXP Prof., both on up-to-date patch level. What ist your Palo enviroment?

RE: Dimension problem

Hi,
I am using OFF2003 running on Win XP, no "special" settings. Just installed Palo. Tried with PALO 2.5 and PALO 3.0.

Did you try to reinstall?

And after entering a value "on" PALO.DATAC sheet: Is the PALO.DATAC formula still there?

Can anybody else reproduce?

RE: Dimension problem

Hello Holger,

unfortunately I can't get hold of a newer Office Version.
Yes, I re-installed twice. Palo --> Info... says: Version 3.0 (Build 3969).
Yes, the PALO.DATAC() formula is still there, too. But it shows 0,00 8)

Uwe,
Can you attach your test workbook, please?

In addition you could make a bug report in bug tracking system.

I've attached mine, too.

As of using the bug tracking system: Is there a n HOWTO anywhere?

I tested it further.

I think that if there are more than 33 based elements in the dimension, the DATAC function doesn’t work.
However I didn’t find any reference to this in the manual.

What’s your opinion?

Hi,
okay, I could reproduce with Palo Server/AddIn setup (2009-10-28, Community Edition). Please report in bug tracking system.

However this seems to be a problem of the AddIn. When I acces the 3.0 server with 2.5 it works like expected.

Hello Holger,

Now I'm confused. In the second post of this thread, you wrote that Geri's DB yields correct, non-zero results in your setup. Assuming that the Palo version used for that first try wasn't the Community Edition, which was it then?

Uwe,

My tries:

1) 2.5 setup (server and client) : worked
2) 2.5 Client with 3.0 server: worked
3) 3.0 setup (server and client) : did not work (could reproduce)

Hope confusion is gone now: :-)

Holger, thanks for clarification.

NB, one can reproduce the error within the models delivered with Palo:
In the Biker database, create one cube "Funktioniert" with the dimensions "Products" and "Measures", and one cube "Kaputt" with the dimensions "Measures" and "Products". Yes, order is important.

The first cube "Funktioniert" works as expected. The second one, "Kaputt", shows the effect described by Geri and me: Values entered are shown as zeroes with all data functions but PALO.DATA().

Next, I'll try to cope with http://bugs.palo.net/ :-)

Hi,

I changed the order of dimensions in the cube.
The symptom was the same.

How can I download Palo 2.5 client?

Thanks,
Geri

There used to be a download archive on jedox.com. Maybe you can ask them.

Hi,

I can only download Palo 3.0 from jedox.com.
Could you send a link to Palo 2.5 downloading or Palo 2.5 install file?

Thanks,
Geri
