Rules disappear

Hi. I have been building a cube with some rules, to get familiar with Palo. Having saved around 7 or 8 rules to the cube, I then went about adding an item to the values dimension. On returning to continue with the rules, only 2 rules remained, and the remainder had been removed/deleted. Any ideas? seems very strange behaviour. They were all rather general STET rules to block calculations on selected cells or elements.

Hello

How do I add the elements, through ETL or by hand?

Regards,
Kais

I added the elements by hand, i.e. copied and pasted full new dimension from a spreadsheet into modeller. Any ideas why this happened?

Did you also delete anything - My experience with rules has been that if an element is referenced in a rule and the element is deleted the rule gets deleted too.

This seems slightly over the top to me although it does guarantee a rule file that works, even if you may lose hours of work as a result and end up not being sure what has gone and what has not.

It seems to me that if PALO can identify the rule(s) to delete it really ought to be asking if you really want to delete the element rather than simply tidying up after the event!

I have now learned to save my rules to text file on a very regular basis

Hello

As I understood here, your problem has nothing to do with ETL server and it is more a Paloserver problem. If this is the case, you can try to post your problem in the Palo part and not the ETL server.

When posting, try to give a certain example so that we can reproduce the problem (if exists).

Kais

Hi Kais

Sorry about the above - mistake on my part to post in wrong section.

It was hard to post an example, as the rules were gone! I do however think I have identified the issue - I had rebuilt the dimension (copy and paste full dimension into modeller), and I presume Palo thus clears the rules referring to specific elements in that dimension. So think this makes sense.

Sorry once again about posting in wrong thread - feel free to delete the post.

I have just discovered a PARTICULARLY nasty behaviour in V3 where I have lost a load of rules as a result of adding and deleting elements to a dimension.

The particular nastiness here is that the rules concerned did not refer to a specific element but only to a !'dimension' type element.

There is absolutely NO reason why Palo should have deleted the rule, even by it's own draconian standards.

This need fixing (and now)

In the meantime back up your rule files guys!
Best wishes

I have the same issue as Pommie - I use ETL talend and even if I dont destroy any dimension simply updating elements in the dimensions delete all rules.
The only solution I found is to create rules with the etl at the end of the job with tpalorules

Unfortunately this solution may not work for a long time, the rules ID is growing every time I update the cube and I dont know if the limite is 255 65000 or more for rules ID?
