Function To Look Down Multiple Levels Of A Dimension Heirarchy

Is there a rules function that will allow a rule to be applied down multiple levels of a hierarchy.
For example, apply a rule to all European cities, where the cities
London, Leeds, Vienna, Graz, Berlin and Frankfurt consolidate into Europe:-

World
- Europe
- UK
- England
London
Leeds
- Scotland
Glasgow
Edinburgh
- Austria
Vienna
Graz
- Germany
Berlin
Frankfurt
- Americas
- USA
New York
LA
Denver

This is a similar rules function to the TM1 Elisanc rules function.

RE: Function To Look Down Multiple Levels Of A Dimension Heirarchy

Hi Dave,

PALO (currently) doesn't have an ElIsAnc function like TM1.

What you could do is add an attribute to your 'geography' dimension indicating the region and do a lookup of this attribute in the rule to determine whether a city is in a certain region.

RE: Function To Look Down Multiple Levels Of A Dimension Heirarchy

Michel,
This is the work around I have used. It is neater than the other method I tried, using an additional consolidation/hierarchy to group all the European cities together and then using the EISCHILD function.
Best Regards
Dave

Is this function going to be available in V3 - we had to fight Applix long and hard to get this in TM! but they did eventually get their heads around the fact that it really was needed.

It would be nice if Jedox could give us this without such a struggle :)

Do i understand you correctly, that you're looking for a function to check wether a given element is a (multi-level) descendant of another?

There's a feature request for this one, but it won't be in the initial 3.0 version.

Yes - what I need to know is not simply is an element a component ofa particular consolidation (e.g. Frankfurt belongs to Germany) but whether it is an N level descendant. (E.G. Frankfurt belongs to Europe, because it belongs to Germany which belongs to Europe).

As the number of parent "generations" may vary, nested "eischild"s won't suffice.

The functionality is needed in both rules and in spreadsheets.

Thanks
Best wishes
