palo service and paste view

I would like to understand better how the palo server works; what happens to the palo server when a user, for instance:

1) runs the palo EXCEL add-in (the palo.log seem to be appended, cubes beeing loaded in memory..) ?

2) closes an EXCEL worksheet with a pasted view (even without saving the worksheet)? an intense activity of the palo server can be noticed in the task manager process window.

Thank you in advance for some explanations.

RE: palo service and paste view

Hello!
When you start Excel with Add-in, among other things, Add-in will check if local Palo server service is running. If not, it will try to start it. When you exit Excel, during unload, Add-in will order server to synchronize log files. There is status message displayed in Excel’s status bar for both of theses actions. Both actions produce fair amount of log data in palo.log.

RE: palo service and paste view

Hello,

Thanks for the reply; It is useful to know that the palo service is started automaticaly if needed by the excel add-in.

An other point that is not clear to me : when does one need to use the palo wizard to connect to a previously registered connection ? I do not think it is each time one exits EXCEL and the EXCEL add-in. I had to do it last time and do no understand what I did before that was special. The use of that button is not explained in the tutorial, if I remember well.

RE: palo service and paste view

Hello!
Before you exit Excel, Palo Add-in stores status of registered servers. Next time you start Add-in and you open Modeller, it will try to recreate connections that were there before you exited Excel for the last time.
When you register new server Palo Wizard will try to connect to this server.
