Palo on data from CRM-Systems

Hello, would anybody share experiences on the use of Palo on CRM-Systems? As I understand there is one major difference to the generic use of Palo in finance: while data for previous months doesn't change and such doesn't need to be importet over and over again, all data from an CRM needs to be importet before any use. Any advice? Cheers, J.

RE: Palo on data from CRM-Systems

Hi,

this is not so different from importing from e.g. an Order tracking system, where order status varies over time (open, in preparation, sent, received, etc).
In this case, instead of an additional load (i.e., load only new records), you have two options:
- to perform each time a full load of the cube(s) from a full fact table
- to perform a "differential load" by passing to palo etl (whichever etl you use) new records (= cells that where NULL, or 0, before) + varied records (= cells in which you already had a value).

If you need further info, please ask, regards,
RQ

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply, realquo.
So I would import only that data that is different compared to the last import, i.e. that has changed in the CRM-System since the last import.
It seems you were doing that already. Which ETL were / are you using and how? Regards J.

Hi,

I'm using a in-house developed ETL program to which I provide a table with the modified and new records(-->cells), but I bet the same result can be achieved using the PaloETL that is part of the PaloSuite (Community Ed too) download.
If you'll need help with it I'm sure you'll find people here that will be able to, unfortunately I have no experience with it,

kind regards,
RQ

Hi,

what CRM system are you talking about. Kettle and Talend have connectivity to Palo and many CRM systems, so if you don't know the table structure of your system, that might be a good starting point.

Regards.
