missing PALO error elimination in OS

Palo error elimination.

I am a Palo user from the very beginning.

I apreciate a lot the development of Palo and Jedox.

But I regret heavily now the impression I have, that Jedox is going to change their habits towards the huge number of users and testers in the open source Palo community by not updating in time the OS version of Palo concerning elimination of reported bugs.

When I started to use PALO Suite 3.1 I had to realize a lot of errors. I was told in version 3.2 there will be a big improvment on this issue.

When I realized now that 3.2 is released for download, where almost 200 bugs etc. were eliminated (!) I had to realize that it is only possible to use this 3.2 version for 30 days testwise and no Community version is available so far, may be in several month, I was told officially.

It is ok that in the free OS version new features will not be available for free but by the work done by the community in testing PALO and reporting errors and bugs in the software it would be very fair to this community to offer the version with these bugs repaired. The work is allready done by Jedox but they do not give it to the OS community.

To let the community do the work for testing and reporting errors but not rewarding them with the error eliminated community version is just not fair.

Jedox gets the big testing environment and work of the community for free and as an important input and basis for also improving their commercial versions of PALO. Jedox should pay the fair compensation for this by offering the error eliminated version back.

I think a new release of version 3.1, with the eliminated errors would be the adequate and fair solution.

RE: missing PALO error elimination in OS

Hi,
as you can read the last information from Jedox about community editon, they probably do not need so wide tests. Older premium 3.1 SR will be avalable as CE in the middle of 2011, and other actualization in two years, maybee. It is too late, I am affraid. Does anybody know about some another forum for comparison of simmilar products with clear information about functionality, price and experiences? Does anybody experience with support for paid premium version in real implementation? I do not mean simple example. I saw some of them searching help on this community forum.

Hi,
yes I read about Jedox commitment to open source for the future. The proposed model (time-delayed release to CE of improvements first available in the PE), as ldivis says, may suggest that Jedox is not intending, for the future, the community as a source for testing.
I think everyone here would like a quick release of improvements and fixes to CE but, at a certain point, there would be no difference with PE.
Personally I find that the stated model (CE one step behind PE as of features) is reasonable, especially in the long term, as long as the time delay is kept at an acceptable level, but this will be a matter of balance.

Hi ldivis,

we work together with Jedox Support on numerous projects and they always did a job that was well worth the money! Up to now, I mostly recommended buying PE as a way to get access to support and with a ratio of CE : PE at about 50 : 50, this can't be so wrong.

Regards.
